The Soviet PPD submachine gun originally designed in 1934 by Vasily Degtyaryov could use either a 35-round box magazine, or a 71-round drum magazine copied from the Finnish Suomi KP/-31 submachine gun that however used 9x19mm Parabellum instead, and the latter magazine was most common. ![]() ![]() Mechanicsīecause you’ve already had LTR for a week, I don’t want to waste your time with “this is The Ring mechanic. has been one of my favorite decks because of how easily it can overpower a random curve of creatures. There are still synergies to play with, and control is also quite viable. You can run people over just by playing creatures and pump spells without doing anything fancy. What this means for gameplay is that LTR is scrappy. Themes like Food and draw-two have sparse support, which means that a good LTR deck is often just one with a strong curve + decent card quality. The best large creatures are the landcyclers, which encourage you to skim on basics. Many rares are bad and there aren’t many rewarding expensive cards to play.Every color has a playable 1-mana combat trick: Escape from Orthanc, Deceive the Messenger, Shelob's Ambush, Rush the Room and Pippin's Bravery. For example, “ skulk” from the first Ring ability means only certain blocks can happen, and thus they often do. The set is full of solid, cheap pump spells and “The Ring Tempts You” makes combat more predictable.Amass is another subtly aggressive mechanic, as boosts to your army have “haste” because they are effectively pump spells. It does nothing for you if your plan is just to sit behind Shire Scarecrow and cast every legend you remembered from the films. “ Tempted by The Ring” consistently applies pressure, mitigating mana problems, and ending games.LTR is also substantially more aggressive than MOM, for many reasons: ![]() In LTR, I first-pick my rare about 33% of the time and feel as though I’m picking mid-level cards most of the time. LTR is almost the polar opposite of the previous set, March of the Machine MOM’s general power level was high, there were few unplayables, and I first-picked my rare 90% of the time. There are also several commons that you should rarely or never play. Black is substantially better than other colors, and green is almost Battle for Zendikar levels of bad.Ĭards like Forge Anew, Fangorn, Tree Shepherd, and Borne Upon a Wind do not feel as though they are from the same set as Meneldor, Swift Savior, Call of the Ring and Claim the Precious. I’m going to be blunt: LTR is one of the weakest and most poorly balanced sets I’ve played in years! This weakness appears mostly at rare and common, while the poor balance is all over the place and includes both card balance and color balance. The barrel, accent parts and internals are all coated in their signature NP3. Then they added a complete re-finish job. Robar started with their signature grip texturing, and what they call a “high grip modification” – a pair of undercuts to the trigger guard and top of the back strap respectively to allow the gun to sit deeper in the hand. We’re not saying Robar is the only shop that will do these things on an XD, but it seems to be a small club. Alas, you’d be hard pressed to find snaps, grams or posts of this Croatian-born ugly duckling with a windowed slide, fluted gold nitride barrel or dimpled grips. Notably absent from social media are the droves of machinists, sanders, and stipplers showing off their Springfield XD enhancement suites. For Glocks, M&Ps SIG 320s and even CZ P10s, the stable of grip-shapers and slide-cutters seems to be ever expanding. They’ve taken on a number of unconventional projects for us in the past, and continue to prove their versatility and consistency with their work on our test bed XD 45. The Robar name should be no stranger to veteran RECOIL readers. THE HOOD, AND WHAT’S UNDER IT: Robar Industries All in all, the trifecta of parts we selected from Powder River made all of the XD’s controls smoother and more responsive to shooter input. Compared to the OEM grip safety, the Powder River unit registers positively in the palm when you close your hand around the pistol and snaps spritely back into place when you release it. It gives the distinct impression of being modeled off of an Ed Brown 1911 grip safety which, if you’re going to have a grip safety, that’s one of the nicer ones to cue off of. It, too, is machined from steel and features a deeply swept top and a prominent humped bottom with tactile ridges. Their grip safety takes one of the most hotly contested parts of the XD and, if nothing else, gives it a nice facelift and some enhanced functionality. We selected the smaller of the two, more convenient than the OEM button but not big enough that we ever hit it by accident. The Powder River extended magazine release is CNC machined out of steel and textured with a bullseye type pattern. The reset is about an eighth of an inch, with a distinct click when you get there. There are no defined “stages,” just a gradually increasing pressure that builds, builds, builds and then releases just as the trigger hits its over-travel stop. The Powder River XD trigger feels more like a 3-gun AR trigger. Many aftermarket striker triggers are built with a loose first stage that hits a hard wall before an audible, tree-branch-snapping break. The break on this trigger took a little getting used to for is. And if you do want to shoot competition with this trigger, it is USPSA Production Division legal. Our Lyman digital gauge clocked the trigger break at just shy of 5 pounds, putting it squarely in the realm of an enhanced duty trigger. Our experience, while positive, did not mirror that exactly. The whole package is advertised to produce a short, crisp trigger that breaks between 3.5 and 4 pounds. It does create an instant, hard stop almost immediately after the break. The folks at Powder River claim that this method of over-travel control avoids stresses on the trigger bar. The trigger itself has an over-travel stop built into the back of it. Their Ultimate Match trigger is a full overhaul for your XD trigger, including springs, sear and trigger shoe. We used three key components from them: their Ultimate Match trigger kit, extended mag release and extended grip safety. Powder River Precision has been in the XD game for a while, and their replacement fire control parts reflect a level of refinement that comes with time. They also ship very fast! Please tell me your favorite minigun in the comments below and which one you want to see in SS4, if Croteam still keeps up with the SS4 forum then maybe your favorite minigun will be in the final product! As always, feel free to tell me how wrong I am and I plan to maybe two more SS4 Polls like this (might even do another really long post on the Fusion discussion board over changes and fixes in case of another major update). The BFE minigun to me feels more like a hitscanning laser rifle, which isn't a bad thing, but the way the laser rifle works is like a heavy assault rifle of sorts since it has the same fire rate as the M29 but dose double damage, so basically the BFE minigun is a heavy assault rifle instead of a minigun. I personally prefer the classic minigun mostly because the constant damage allows you to push back and lock down large groups of kleers (until you run out of ammo), plus there's something visceral about watching your ammunition deplete so quickly that actually makes it feel like a minigun chewing through ammo (mostly talking about that gauntlet of kleers near the end of Memphis Metropolis). Combination of Both? Maybe same stats as classic but with separate ammo pool or maybe same ammo pool but with BFE stats? BFE Minigun (500 rounds regardless of difficulty, ammo is separate from M29 Assault Rifle, slower damage output = same fire rate as XL2 Laser and M29, same damage as XL2 Laser but hitscanning) Classic Minigun (500-1000 rounds, ammo pools with SMG, constant damage output = fast ammo drain, same damage as SMG but melts enemies) * Note: This poll is purely about stats as Croteam will probably create a brand new model or reuse the SS3 minigun model in SS4 I thought I'd try something different by taking a poll on which version of the minigun would the community like to see in SS4? A long time ago I did a super long post (found here) where I threw out a bunch of questions and thoughts on gameplay balancing to get Dev and Community feedback and Jowell_37, as well as other community members, have also done this (Jowell_37s post) with mixed results. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Also his conversation with his mom and the chief clerk further show the irrationality of his thoughts. Liquid glass protection is generally more expensive than traditional plastic or tempered glass screen protectors because it is typically classed as nanotechnology and can last much longer than conventional screens. Liquid glass forms an additional protective surface on the device’s original display surface and promises to provide greater scratch and impact protection, while a plastic or tempered glass screen protector forms an additional protective layer directly on top of the device’s display surface. It ultimately comes down to personal preference when deciding whether a liquid glass or screen protector is better for your device. ![]() |
